The Elder Scrolls Online: Welcome to the Blackwood

Bethesda revealed the next step for its sprawling online game. The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood, the latest DLC, takes place before the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Blackwood will launch on separate dates in mid-2021 for PC and consoles but Bethesda promises an exciting new story regardless of the platform.

Blackwood will provide players access to a new main storyline, the DLC’s story follows the schemes of the Daedric Prince Merhunes Dagon, the big bad evil guy from Oblivion. It takes players to 800 years before the events of Oblivion, a long time before the death of Emperor Uriel Septim VII. There is also a new 12-player trial called Rockgrove, as well as new delves, public dungeons, world bosses and new events which see portals to Oblivion open up around Tamriel.

The update introduces Oblivion Portal World Events, a few quality-of-life additions, and a Companions system similar to most single-player Elder Scrolls games. Players will be able to meet, recruit, and customize specialized NPCs to fight alongside them in their adventures. Blackwood opens up several famous locations related to Oblivion.
The first part of the Gates of Oblivion comes in the form of the Flames of Ambition DLC which adds two new PvE dungeon, The Cauldron and the Black Drake Villa.

The extended Gates of Oblivion event may bring more DLCs within the year. Currently, ESO players have Blackwood to look forward to. The Blackwood storyline is expected to start off with the Flames of Ambition DLC. The DLC will thrust players into the questline with the addition of new dungeons that “reveal the threat of Mehrunes Dagon.” Flames of Ambition launches on March 8 for PC, MAC, and Stadia and on March 16 for Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Blackwood will add a new zone to explore, which features Niben Forest, Blackwood Bog and the city of Leyawiin, the latter of which featured in Oblivion.
There are a wealth of additions promised in Blackwood including a Companion system that will let players recruit an NPC as a party member, who will come “complete with their own stories and character”.
The roadmap promises that there will be a DLC dungeon pack to come in the third quarter of the year, as well as a story zone DLC in late 2021.
Fans of the single-player instalments will have to wait a while for any updates, as a senior VP of marketing for Bethesda said that news of The Elder Scrolls VI won’t come until “years from now”.

The Elder Scrolls: Blackwood launches on PC on June 1 and on consoles on June 8.
Bethesda teased an “end-of-year story DLC” but we’ll have to wait for more details regarding that expansion. It’s an exciting time for loyal ESO players as they grapple with one of the biggest threats of the Elder Scrolls universe.

Scribing is one of the most innovative mechanics that allows players to make their skills look exactly as they want. Unlike traditional spell crafting seen in other Elder Scrolls titles, scribing in ESO is far more specialized and rigid.
